One teacher shares her perspective on the value of the garden at Waimea School on the Big Island. “The garden provides wonderful opportunities for us to share the highlights and the values of the Hawaiian culture. The area, the garden, that you take care of, that’s your kuleana; it’s your responsibility to take care of the plants. I think as teachers begin to see the campus as a teaching element, the whole concept of using the outdoors won’t be so overwhelming.” (page 48).
