urban tree canopy study

NatureTalks is working with Smart Trees Pacific to examine the urban forest canopy in Honolulu and Kapolei. The goal of this project is to encourage sound decisions about tree planting in correlation with the expansion of the human population and development on the Hawaiian Islands. NatureTalks is part of the team identifying the many ways trees and imaging of the tree canopy can be used in planning decisions in Hawaii. Initial groundwork includes analyzing urban tree canopy studies in multiple cities across the nation. The project team hopes to have a positive impact on how the city of Kapolei, Oahu expands, in particular, as the expansion relates to the urban forests and integrating the multi-faceted uses of trees.
